The Gift of Bird

Happy Friday!

Sassy here bringing you today's Linnie Blooms Design Team post and a cute gift idea easy enough for kids to make this holiday season.

Stitch together two Linnie Blooms Canvas Birds leaving a small opening to stuff.  I stuffed the bird with small pieces from a plastic envelope and then sealed the opening.  Both sides of the stuffed bird were painted with Tim Holtz Distress Paint, Aged Mahogany.  Gold ink was used for embellishing.  After drying, the bird was given three coats of a waterproof sealer.

The key chain assembly was done and VOILA.... a cute bird key chain.

Leaves? Turkeys?

Trees and leaves were recently the theme of the week at Linnie Blooms.

But, are there other ways to use them?  I stumbled on my idea completely by accident.

I used leaves,

Canvas Leaves

and paints, mists, ink, and a stamp.

I was rearranging my leaves for a different idea and then I thought "November" - cold, fall colors, mounds of leaves, and turkey.  There my leaves were lined up and they reminded me colorful turkey feathers.

 Wouldn't this be a fun and easy activity for kids to do?  Send a card, an invite, table decor, place sitting are just a few ideas to get them involved, too.

A Closer Look - Linnie Blooms DT

 Today is my day to bring you the Linnie Blooms  post and since we are in the middle of a blog hop with Genuinely Jane Studios(GJS) I am bringing you a closer look at the pages I created using the GJS  House album and  a variety of Linnie Blooms  products throughout to create "Love Spoken Here" album.

No canvas pieces were used on this page.

The canvas birds and wings (leaves) each received a light coat of gesso.  Their wings and breast areas were glittered using Tim Holtz Distress Glitter.  The red bird was painted with a Claudine Hellmuth paint.

Again, no Linnie Blooms canvas pieces were used on page 3.

The pocket was created using Linnie Textures.

The butterfly in the top, upper-left is a canvas piece from Linnie Blooms.  This was spritzed with Dylusions Teal and then accented using a black Sharpie.

The canvas sunflower has a seed bead middle, a yellow-gold paint on the canvas and Sharpie pen hightlights.  The leaves were painted green with Sharpie patterning.

Washie tape covers the trunk of the tree and a roller stamp was used on the green of the tree.

Linnie Bloom - Sassy Time

I have the pleasure of bringing to you another project I created for Linnie Blooms.

For this project, I used:

I love working with the  Linnie Blooms Canvas Long Blank.  They are the perfect size!

  To create the above:

1.  Applied light gesso wash

2.  Blended three colors of Tim Holtz Distress Ink (Faded Jeans,  Peacock Feathers, Gathered Twigs) to create the background.

3.  Stamped the GinaK images using Jet Black Archival Ink

4.  Hand-lettered "Life is like a camera...),

I love all the textures!

For the Linnie Blooms Canvas Pennants, I gave them a light coat of gesso and then worked with reds and pinks to shade.  The canvas butterflies also received a gesso coat, followed by acrylic paint in two different shades of pink.  I stamped on one and splattered with a flick of paint on the other.  Both were outlines in gesso and embellished with the buttons and 3 Girl Jam wrinkle ribbon.

This was an easy project.  Working with the canvas the ideas are non-stop.  It, too, is so easy to work with so if you haven't tried it, check out the Linnie Blooms store.

Today, it is my turn to bring you a project I created using Linnie Blooms canvas pieces.

I love the long blanks! You start with this:

Create your magic!

For my piece above, I applied a thin layer of gesso to the background.

I added a piece of Tim Holtz tissue tape.

With my fingers blended gelatos for the background.

Stamped the girl image and the word Magic.

Paper-pieced the girl's dress and socks.

Used a stencil and fiber paste for texture.

Stamped with paint and a bottle cap the circles.

If you haven't tried Linnie Bloom's canvas pieces, you are missing out.  They are fantastic to work with be it you are a cardmaker, scrapbooker, alterer, or mixed media artist.  They will add  just the touch you need to complete your project or for a complete project.  The possibilities are endless.

Linnie Blooms Design Team Challenge - Distress Inks

The first challenge at Linnie Blooms is Distress Ink.  You have until August 31 to link up your design.

First, I applied a light coat of gesso and let it dry.  Next, I layered three colors of Tim Holtz Distress Ink in this order from top to bottom:  Faded Jeans, Peacock Feathers, Gathered Twigs.  The Peacock Feathers was blended up in to Faded Jeans.  The Gathered Twigs was applied using a stiff brush.  Fired Brick was used on the lawn chairs.

Tim Holtz Distress Ink:  Gathered Twigs, Faded Jeans, Peacock Feathers, Fired Brick

My Debut Project for Linnie Blooms

Today is the day I share with you Linnie Blooms and my first project for the Design Team.

First, are you familiar with Linnie Blooms?  It is a retail store that offers a wide variety of craft and art supplies. Also, you will find fun, creative classes that include mixed-media, monthly Pinterest classes, kid's sewing classes, crochet, and more.  The store also features artwork and creations from different artists.  I provided several links to Linnie Blooms at the end of this post.

For my first project, I went very simple - to get a feel for the canvas pieces sent to use.

I started with the canvas sunflower and canvas leaves.  Each piece I gave a light coat of gesso.  After the gesso dried, I applied color by using Viva Inka-Gold Metallic Rubs in gold, violet, and steel blue. Outlining was done with a gold color.  How simple and easy it was to work with these canvas pieces and how beautifully they took on the color.
